Questions:

Question #1: Should state put tolls on the Alaskan Way viaduct, the Highway 520 floating bridge and other mega-projects around the state to pay for at least half the cost of those improvement projects?

Yes.  It makes sense for the folks using roads to help pay for them. Most of the traffic on the Alaskan Way viaduct and the Highway 520 floating bridge is commuter and commercial traffic. The best way to build and maintain the additional capacity needed is to allow users to help absorb the costs. Additionally, adjoining projects directly related to highway projects should also benefit from toll collected income.

Question #2: If state revenues continue to decline, can you balance the state budget without increasing taxes or fees? Why or why not?

Yes. Economies respond in cycles. It is important to budget by priorities, just like any household would do. The State should be as careful with it’s spending as the voters have to be with theirs. They should reevaluate priorities, and enhance the economy by stimulating circulation of dollars. This is possible by incentivizing the industries most necessary at any given point. Right now encouraging green jobs will help start money circulating, creating a positive cycle.
